Men’s events scheduled

Grace Community Church in Overbrook has a very active men’s ministry, featuring monthly Men’s Night and Prayer Breakfasts.

All fathers, sons, grandfathers, etc., of all ages, from all towns and from all churches or no church at all are encouraged to attend both events. For more information, call 665-7117.

Metro Voice is available to outlying churches

Churches in outlying areas can receive the Metro Voice by mail for the cost of postage and handling. Up to 35 copies can be mailed at a cost of $10.00 per month. For smaller churches, 6-10 papers can be mailed at a cost of $5 each month. Church administrators can call 235-3340 to order delivery.

Pastor prays over deposit slip, gets $1.5M gift

A $1 million bank deposit slip wish by a minister to pay for a new church came true — and then some. The Rev. Thomas McDaniels of LifeBridge Christian Center in Longview, Tx, said a businessman, who chooses to remain anonymous, wrote him a $1.5 million check.

Members of LifeBridge, which formed in 2005, had met at a Longview hotel. Their new church opens in a few weeks. McDaniels described how in January 2007 he took a bank deposit slip and wrote $1 million, "meaning that one day someone would give us a million dollar gift."

The minister, who prayed over the deposit slip, said a business owner Dec. 2 asked how much was needed to pay for the church. McDaniels said $1.4 million. The benefactor's check included an extra $100,000.

McDaniels says, in these economic times, that "the Lord wanted to show his power."
