Call to serve

President Obama has issued “A Call to Serve” urging Americans to better our nation through community service.  As we celebrate Black History and American History, we also recognize a great need for foster families.

As the number of children increase in our child welfare system, so does the need for adequate foster families.  In Wyandotte County alone, nearly 54% of the kids in care are African American.  Sadly, all too often due to a lack of suitable foster homes in our community, many move to other areas.  Our current age base for African American children is between the ages of 10 to 18.

While any race can foster Black children, we especially call on African Americans families to step forward. I urge you to consider helping a child as a foster parent.  For more information contact the Kansas Children’s Service League at 877-530-5275 or online at kcsl.org.

Dear Editor

Appreciated your article about Doorstep and the Rescue Mission in the January issue.  Keep up the good work.

What are you thinking, Mr. President?

I am sure that the irony of the recent anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and our new President ordering Guantanamo closed and stopping any and all torture of terrorists, events occurring during the same week in January, was not lost on those of us that have been in the battle for the lives of the unborn for decades.

We are all shaking our heads in disbelief. How can an otherwise intelligent person not see the utter stupidity in these two events? On one hand America is going to stop using torture to get information out of terrorists, and on the other hand America will continue to dismember and kill 3800 innocent babies in the womb every day!

Not only are 3800 babies dying daily; but 3800 women are being wounded everyday. Does this make any sense to anyone? I did not vote for our new president; precisely because of his pro-death stand; but I will pray for him daily. My daily prayer is that he will see his misguided stand on abortion and begin to use his presidential power to save babies and stop the wounding of women.

In the last 3 and a half decades America has seen 50 million innocent babies killed by the hands of doctors who swore “to do no harm.” We have watched America slide down this horrific slope of death and now we are on the precipice of utter destruction. America has systematically and deliberately been committing spiritual suicide since Roe vs. Wade became the law of the land!

It is not too late to stop this judgment by the all-righteous creator God. But, we are definitely seeing the “handwriting” on the wall. If America does not repent and stop the needless, selfish and unmerciful killing of the unborn they will experience the full wrath of an all-powerful and just God. I used to pray for mercy for America; but I can’t pray for mercy for a country that protects the rights of terrorists, but murders and denies constitutional rights to 3800 of her unborn citizens.

I cannot not even begin to describe my outrage and sadness at our government and its new president.

Lord God, send Your judgment on America and stop the senseless killing of Your children in the womb.

January 2009 letters:

Dear editor,

The Kansas Coalition for Life (KCFL) maintains a daily prayerful pro-Life presence on-site at the worst abortion facility in America, the George Tiller late-term abortion facility in Wichita.

KCFL volunteers are present at Tiller’s gate in all kinds of weather, every hour that it is open for business.  As a result, we have documented 369 lives saved, since starting this project in 2004.

Unfortunately, we are saving under 4% of the babies who are scheduled to be killed, and that is far less than what we could be saving if we had YOUR help.

During the times that out-of-area pro-life groups or other groups of individuals have joined us on-site, our save rates have been as high as 12%.

This 12% is what we refer to as “low hanging fruit”.  They are easy to save, with just a little pro-life effort.  We have proof that we could triple the number of babies saved if we had more on-site help, and more financial resources for such things as literature, non-literature handouts such as fetal models or CDs, and effective signage.

For documentation about lives saved, visit www.kcfl.net

Fireproof

We saw the film "Fireproof" today.  It is absolutely the best film my husband and I have ever seen.  And everyone that is married or even think they might ever get married should see this. Can you plug this some more?

Men as spiritual leaders

Thank you for your editor’s blog concerning men’s roles as fathers and as leaders in the family and in the church. The Lord has really laid on my heart a year or so ago how we really need to pray for our men to see themselves as God sees them, as the spiritual leaders of the home and of the church.

Your blog was really an encouragement to me and I wanted to let you know that. I’d love to see a class taught in church about the proper roles of men and women.

God Bless you.

Not all Christians are conservative

I think it's presumptious of you to entitle all Christians as conservative.  There are many liberal Christians and I resent trying to influence the vote to "the conservative vote" or as you think the Republican conservative vote.  There are so many conservatives who are trying to label Barack Obama as a muslim when in reality he is and has been all his life a Christian.  McCain doesn't have much to say about his religion or does he have one? He's been real reluctant about speaking about his faith.  He just relies on Sarah's conservative views.  It seems like this is a conservative news report and I resent it as a free paper at local businesses.
