CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH?

Winston Churchill once said “You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

We at Metro Voice are always appreciative of constructive criticism, and love to hear from our readers, whether it’s agreement, encouragement, differing viewpoints, criticism, appreciation, etc.  Feedback is good.

But some of the responses we get are downright disturbing -- reference the Letter to the Editor on page 7.

We take our responsibility seriously to provide our readers with information that is important to families, so that they can make informed decisions. We do not shy away from controversial topics, and will always print important stories on topics of interest to families, warning them of dangerous practices, ideas and proposed laws. We especially want to present facts and points of view that they may not hear elsewhere. Our readers depend on us to keep them informed with accurate, updated information on topics that affect them. We always verify information before printing an article. Some of our articles may also contain warnings and information from people and organizations we trust, and we feel these must be presented to the public so that they can be informed to make intelligent decisions.

The current health care proposals are just the kind of hot topic that can set off a firestorm, as witnessed by the recent town hall meetings. You can read our coverage (and even read the entire bill on our website) and make your own decision.

You can read more of our response in the Editor’s blog on page 6. We know that the writer of the letter has contacted at least some of our advertisers. We do not yet know if we will lose any advertising support because of this, but at least one advertiser has EXTENDED their ad because of her ravings against us.

Many thanks to our faithful advertisers – without them we could not perform this service!

Draw a Line in the Sand!

You may have already noticed the strongly-worded and threatening Letter-to-the-Editor in this issue. It is not the first such letter we have received, but it is part of a growing trend across the nation. There seems to be an organized effort to intimidate and threaten us and other Christian newspapers and radio stations that hold to a biblical worldview. Will such intimidation cause us to shut down and cease to publish fair and accurate information that readers demand and duty compels us to print?

Absolutely not!

And we don’t believe our advertisers and supporters will be intimidated either. People know us by now, and we have a reputation built over the years of standing firm on biblical principles and traditional family values. We are not about to change now!

As you may imagine, even without attacks like this, times are hard in the publishing business, as they are for many others these days. We are praying for more advertising support, so that we can go back to printing 24 pages. There is just too much news and information to get into 16 pages, but lately, with the economy the way it is, many people are cutting back on advertising (not the best idea, but we realize that some have no choice), so we have not been able to afford printing 24 pages.

We are extremely grateful for all our supporters, and we continue to pray for our current and past advertisers, and for an economic recovery, for the benefit of us all.

In the meantime, we’ll take comfort in this verse:  Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you…..Matthew 5:11

We believe it’s time in this country to draw a line in the sand and say “Enough is enough! Who’s on the side of the traditional values this country was built on, and who’s not?”

Town hall meetings are a great place to make your voice heard, so we encourage everyone to do their patriotic duty and speak up for your beliefs. Remember, the politicians work for us, not the other way around! Sometimes they need to be reminded!

Let’s not continue down this slippery slope our government has started us on these last few months, with out-of-control spending and the eroding of our freedoms and family values. This poor stewardship of God’s gifts to us will only bring us pain and heartache. If we don’t stand up for Life and Liberty, we won’t have the freedom to pursue Happiness!

All these bail-outs are ridiculous! And what about this crazy Cash for Clunkers program? Using tax money gathered from people who can't afford a new car, or even a new USED car, to pay someone else who’s better off, to buy a brand new car? Where is the sense in the government paying out $4500 for a perfectly good used car, and then crushing it instead of allowing it to be donated to someone who needs one?

And now they want to take over our health care system? I don’t think so! I wouldn’t want to be part of that mess! And I don’t want to end up paying for “end-of-life counseling” and free government abortions and the like.

Our country was founded on Biblical principles by Christian people. Government of, by, and for the people with such freedoms was unprecedented - an experiment of divine inspiration. And the USA thrived as no other nation had ever done. We have let others push God and Biblical principles out of the public square, our schools, our government, etc. No wonder the country has suffered, and we are now dependant on third world countries.

It’s time to speak up and do what’s right, and let the chips fall where they may! Leave the rest up to God – He can handle His end of things. If we are afraid to speak up for fear of consequences, we'll soon lose the right to speak up. That's how we have fallen to where we are in this country.

Let’s get back to what made us great. Let’s get back to biblical principles. Let’s get back to what worked.
